  1. I'm walking hand-in-hand with my partner for the afternoon. Of the group of 10 couples I was the only straight, but most couples for this action were just couples for the activity as well. Some partners had to look after the children, others had to work, and others didn't have partners.

It was a fabulous day. Walking in the shopping mall, in the shops, on the street, we smiled and people smiled back! We gave out pamphlets explaining the (Hand-in-hand heel gewoon) 'holding hands, just like you' action as that of the Leiden Gay + Lesbian Group and quite a number of people came up to us afterwards either with a word of thanks and story about one of their friends or family members who was gay, or just said things like "great", "everyone is equal", and so on.
My highlight was when I gave a pamphlet to an active elderly woman, she then asked me what this organization was and when did they meet. I then got Alex to fill her in. He rattled off, the cardgame afternoons, prayer meetings, visits to gays in rest homes and women's tea afternoons, stressing that these were activities for women of her age. Her face lit up on hearing of these opportunities, so did mine. I wish the Bahais were so organized and oriented towards stimulating social activities.
Then afterwards I had a lovely chat on many topics with a Turkish gay who is doing research on Alzheimer's disease. He told me that the gay community in his country was diverse and lively and that he chose to come to the Netherlands for his research, not because of the gay community in particular.
