Anam Thubten grew up writing poems in his native Tibetan language, following in the tradition in Tibetan Buddhism of Doha or Songs of Realization that express nonconceptual themes like the great emptiness, the unconditioned, boundless love, ecstatic devotion. Since coming to the west, his poems have taken on a new flavor, while still exploring the bitter as well as the sweet flavor of the ordinary and extraordinary truth of human life.  In the mid 1990's Anam Thubten shared a stage with Allen Ginsberg in San Francisco as seen in this photograph from Marc Olmstead.
